Jesse Harris
Jesse Harris is a singer/songwriter from New York City. His latest album Mineral, which features drummer Kenny Wollesen and keyboardist Larry Goldings, was released recently on his own label Secret Sun Recordings. He made his first records in the mid-nineties as part of the duo Once Blue (EMI) and later released five albums with his group The Ferdinandos, the latest two of which, While The Music Lasts and The Secret Sun, with the Verve Music Group. In 2003 he won the Grammy Award for Song Of the Year for Norah Jones' rendition of "Don't Know Why". He wrote four other songs for that album and also appeared as guitarist. His songs have been recorded by many artists, including Madeleine Peyroux, Lizz Wright and Pat Metheny. As a guitarist he has played on a wide range of albums, including Bright Eyes' "I'm Wide Awake, Its Morning" and Tristan Prettyman's "Twentythree". Currently he is at work on the soundtrack and score for the upcoming Ethan Hawke film The Hottest State, in which he also appears onscreen for the first time. The soundtrack will feature the interpretation of his songs by many great artists, including Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris, Norah Jones, Bright Eyes, M Ward, Feist, The Black Keys and others. August will mark the first release by another artist on Secret Sun, Sasha Dobson's "Modern Romance", produced by Harris and Richard Julian. Until the end of July Harris will be performing every Monday at The Living Room with a quartet featuring bass, drums, and Hammond B3 organ.
